IFFI 2021: International Film Festival To Be Held From 16 To 24 Jan

IFFI 2021: International Film Festival to be held from 16 to 24 January in Goa, to compete between 15 films.

The 51st International Film Festival of India (IFFI 2021) organized by the Government of Goa has been announced. The 9-day film festival will be held from 16 January to 24 January.

The film festival was scheduled to take place in November last year, but it was postponed until January, in view of the corona virus pandemic.

International Competition Section

The festival will compete with 15 films from different countries for the prestigious Golden Peacock Award.

The jury set up for the Competition Section of International Films will be headed by Filmmaker Pablo Caesar from Argentina.

While members include Sri Lankan filmmaker Prasanna Vithanagi, Abu Bakar Shockey of Austria, Priyadarshan from India, and Rubaiyat Hussain from Bangladesh.

Among the 15 films that will compete in the International Competition Section, three films from India including Portugal, Denmark, Bulgaria, Iran, Poland.

Spain, Afghanistan, Taiwan, Kripal Kalita’s Bridge, Siddharth Tripathi’s The Dog and His Man, and Ganesh Vinayakan’s Thaen included.

The best film will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 40 lakh, divided equally between the producer and the director.

The director is also given a Golden Peacock and certificate, while the producer gets a certificate along with a cash prize.

Apart from this, cash, silver peacock and certificate of Rs 15 lakh are given in the Best Director category.

Best Actor Male and Female get Rs 10 lakh in cash, silver peacock, and certificate.

Special Jury Award is also given, under which Rs 15 lakh in cash and certificate is given. This award can be given to a film or a person.

Indian Panorama Section

A total of 23 feature and 20 non-feature films will be screened in the Indian Panorama section of the festival. These include Chichore of the late Sushant Singh Rajput.

Tusshar Hiranandani starring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar will open the section with a bull’s eye. This time 9 South Indian and 6 Marathi films will be shown.

South Indian films will have 6 features, 2 mainstream, and 1 non-feature film. At the same time, Marathi films will have 3-3 feature and non-feature films.

These films will premiere

The premiere of Danish filmmaker Thomas Winterberg’s film Another Round will unveil the festival, while Kiyoshi Kurusawa’s historical drama film Wife of a Spy will cast the ceremony.

Mehrunnisa, directed by Austrian filmmaker Sandeep Kumar, will have its world premiere at the festival. Veteran actress Farrukh Zafar is in the lead role.

The International Film Festival of India started in 1952. This time the Contro of Focus will remain Bangladesh and many important films will be shown.

It is among the most prestigious film festivals in Asia. The Government of India, in association with the Ministry of Information Broadcasting.

Directorate of Film Festivals, and the Goa Entertainment Committee, conduct it every year. Many Bollywood celebrities tweeted and congratulated the IFFI.
