‘Providing proper training to military personnel to deal with hybrid warfare is a big challenge’, CDS said in Raisina Dialogue. Hybrid Warfare Training: CDS spoke in Raisina Dialogue

In his address at Raisina Dialogue, India’s premier conference on geopolitics, General Chauhan described providing proper training to military personnel to deal with hybrid warfare along with conventional warfare as a big challenge for the country.

General Chauhan was speaking in a session organized on the topic ‘Verses and Wars: Navigating Hybrid Theaters’. He said that misinformation and internal strife can be a big challenge for a multicultural, multi-religious, and multi-ethnic country like India. He argued that misinformation is a battle of the mind and it can be a big challenge.

The CDS said that cyber space, misinformation and economic pressure – all these are also essential elements of contemporary warfare. I think the global security environment is surrounded by two challenges – one is uncertainty and the other is rapid change.

It is necessary to train for conventional warfare

He said, “The biggest challenge before us is to train people for hybrid wars as well as conventional warfare.” Elaborating on this, General Chauhan cited the fast pace of technology advancement and said that training people to assimilate technology is a challenge.

Discussing various national security challenges, the CDS said that India is facing a threat. Although he did not name any adversary, his comments were seen in the context of Pakistan.

Hybrid Warfare Training: CDS said this about terrorism

He said, “We have always called it a sub-conventional type of conflict. We invented this particular term much before the West invented terms like global war on terrorism or fourth generation war or hyper conflict.”
