Hearing In SC On The Petition Of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

Hearing in SC on the petition of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Law Minister Malay Ghatak today: Narada sting case.

The petition of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Law Minister Malay Ghatak will be heard in the Supreme Court today.

Mamta and Ghatak have challenged the order of the Calcutta High Court on June 9.

The High Court had refused to take the Bengal government’s affidavit on record during the hearing of the CBI’s transfer petition in the Narada scam.

The case pertains to the role of the Chief Minister and the Law Minister during the arrest of four Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders by the CBI in the Narada scam.

Before the hearing on Tuesday, Justice Aniruddha Bose recused himself from hearing the case. The matter was then presented before Chief Justice NV Ramana.

Thereafter, the matter came up for hearing before a bench of Justices Vineet Saran and Dinesh Maheshwari.

Hearing in SC: Justice Saran adjourned the hearing saying the matter was fresh for his bench. He urged the High Court not to hear the matter before June 25.

Let us inform you that three appeals are pending in the Supreme Court against the order of the Calcutta High Court on June 9.

Two appeals have been filed by the Bengal government and Law Minister Malay Ghatak, in which the High Court refused to take on record the affidavits filed by Mamata Banerjee and Ghatak in the transfer petition of the CBI.

The third petition has been filed by Mamta Banerjee herself in the Supreme Court and has challenged the order of the High Court.

The case pertains to the role of Mamata Banerjee and Ghatak during the arrest of Trinamool leaders in the Narada scam by the CBI on May 17 last.

CBI has filed a petition in the High Court alleging that the leaders of the ruling party of the state had prevented CBI from discharging its legal duty.

It is known that on May 17, the CBI had arrested four Trinamool leaders in the Narada scam.

CBI alleges that immediately after the arrest, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sat on a dharna outside the CBI office and the Law Minister was present in the court premises during the virtual hearing.
