FATF Decided That Pakistan Would Remain On The Gray List

FATF decided that Pakistan would remain on the gray list. A blow to Pakistan, FATF retains gray list, know what difficulties Imran will have to face.

The FTAF (Financial Action Task Force, FATF), a global organization to monitor terrorist funding, has once again retained Pakistan in the gray list.

Indian News agency  has given this information quoting Pakistani media. This decision of FATF has dealt a blow to Pakistan.

Its stay on the ‘grey list’ means that it will find it difficult to get funding for investment and aid from international bodies including the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

In fact, it has been three years since Pakistan was on the gray list of FATF. Pakistani PM Imran Khan is trying his best to get Pakistan out of the gray list of FATF, but he is not getting success.

According to the report of news agency, due to the strong network of terrorists in Pakistan, Imran is facing difficulties in implementing the action plan of FATF.

It is known that the virtual session of FATF started in Paris on 21 June. It ended on 25 June. In this meeting, the International Task Force reviewed the compliance reports of Pakistan.

Eventually, the FATF decided that Pakistan would remain on the gray list. Earlier this month a regional ally of the FATF retained Pakistan on the ‘enhanced follow-up’ list.

Recently, the Asia Pacific Group (APG), the regional arm of the FATF, had asked Pakistan to strengthen its anti-money laundering and financing of terrorism measures, while retaining its ‘enhanced follow-up’ status.

With this move of APG, it was decided that Pakistan would remain on the watch list of FATF. The APG had taken the said decision after failing to develop an effective mechanism to curb terrorist activities and prevent economic crime.

The Paris-based FATF had put Pakistan on the watch list in June 2018.
