Gauri Amma, The ‘Iron Lady’ Of Kerala Politics, Died

Gauri Amma, the ‘Iron Lady’ of Kerala politics, died, she was the first revenue minister of the state.

Gauri Amma, always known as Iron Lady in Kerala politics, breathed her last in a private hospital. Here he was admitted for the treatment of age-related diseases.

She was a member of the Cabinet of the world’s first democratically elected Communist government in 1957. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan paid tribute to the late Gauri Amma and described her as a courageous warrior.

In a tweet, the Chief Minister said that she devoted her life to ending exploitation and atrocities and establishing a better society.

Born on 14 July 1919 in Pattanakkad in the Alappuzha district of Kerala, Gauri Amma completed her law studies at Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram.

Gauri Amma, who started from the first assembly of Kerala, lost in 1977 but won again in the next election and remained an MLA till the year 2006.

One of her achievements is the Land Reform Bill, which she introduced to ensure the land to the poor. She served as a minister in various governments.

For 16 years in her long political career, she was the Minister of State in the 6 cabinets of Communist and Congress.

She was expelled from the party in 1994 for anti-party activities and formed the Janadhipati Samriddhi Committee (JSS).

Subsequently, Gauri Amma joined the UDF and became a minister in the UDF government. She last contested in 2011 but lost.

Highest new cases of Covid in Karnataka.

On Monday, Karnataka had the highest number of 39,035 new cases compared to any state in the country. Earlier, Maharashtra was getting the highest number of cases, but in Maharashtra 37,236 cases were found on Monday.

Deaths were also the highest in Karnataka at 596. While 541 people have died in Maharashtra, 319 in Delhi, 278 in Uttar Pradesh, 232 in Tamil Nadu, 161 in Haryana, 160 in Rajasthan, 134 in Bengal and 117 more in Gujarat.
