First time ST priest to be appointed in Kerala temple, For the first time in the history of the Travancore Devasam Board selected ST man as a part-time priest.
For the first time in the history of the Travancore Devasam Board (TDB) in Kerala, someone from a Scheduled Tribe (ST) will become a priest in one of its temples.
TDB manages over 1,200 temples, including the famous Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple in Kerala. A total of 133 non-Brahmin priests have been appointed to various temples in the state during the four and a half year tenure of the Left government in Kerala.
The TDB has decided to appoint 19 priests for its temples on a part-time basis. Of these, 18 are priests of the Scheduled Castes (SC) and one of the Scheduled Tribes (ST). TDB is an apex autonomous body.
Dewasam Minister of State K.K. Surendran said in a Facebook post, ‘This is the first time that TDB is appointing a priest of a Scheduled Tribe for their temples.’
He said that people of this community are appointed as part time priests under special recruitment. Surendran said that from the rank list published in 2017, so far 310 people have been selected for Part Time Priests in the Travancore Devasam Board temples.
He said that at that time, unqualified candidates of SC and ST community were not found in the examination conducted for various posts of priests.
After this, a special notification was issued and a separate rank list was prepared for them, which was published on November 5. He said that four posts were vacant for the priest of the ST community, but only one application was received.
The minister said that the recruitment board appointing the temples was reconstituted after the Left government formed the government in the state. After this, a total of 815 people have been selected for separate posts in the Travancore, Kochi, and Malabar Dewasam boards.
Now, due to Corona epidemic in Karnataka, burning of firecrackers has been banned. While addressing the media, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa said that the order in this regard will be implemented soon.
Let it be said that even before that burning has been banned in many states. Earlier, the burning of firecrackers has been banned in many states including Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, UP, the capital of the country.
