Explosion in an illegal firecracker factory in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district, four including a child killed.

Four people, including a five-year-old child, were killed and a person was injured on Monday when an illegal firecracker unit exploded in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar district.

The blast took place in a house located at Thayilpatti in the Vembakottai police station area in Sattur. An illegal firecracker unit was being operated in this house.

Police said that two people, including the owner of the house where the blast took place, have been arrested in this regard. Police said that the explosion occurred due to friction in the firecrackers.

Two women working there were also killed in this. Later, another person injured in the accident also succumbed to his injuries.

Another injured woman has been admitted to the Government General Hospital in Sivakasi. The women were working in an alleged illegal firecracker unit run by Surya and Prabhakar.

According to the news agency, fire tenders were immediately dispatched to control the fire. Police said two other neighboring houses were also damaged in the incident.

Virudhunagar superintendent of police M Manohar said that the police has held an emergency meeting with all the cooperating agencies to launch a special drive against such illegal units in the district.

Special teams will be formed to detect and take strict action against illegal fireworks units. Efforts will be made to create security awareness in the district.
