Controversy is taking place over the headquarters of KDP.

In Iraq, the demonstration was taking place in a building in Kirkuk that was once the headquarters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). From the year 2017, the Iraqi army started using it as a base.

The central government had planned to return the building to the KDP in a show of goodwill but Arab and Turkmen opponents set up a camp outside the building last week in protest.

Last week, a group of the Arab community blocked the Kirkuk-Erbil highway to protest the reopening of the KDP headquarters in Kirkuk.

Kurdish people asked that the roadway be reopened, sparking skirmishes between protesters and police.

The curfew has been ordered by the PM following Saturday’s clash between KDP supporters, Arab and Turkmen protesters, and security forces.

Police are investigating.

Police said the violence broke out when a group of Kurdish protesters approached the camp on Saturday. Police and hospital sources had earlier said that a Kurdish protester had been killed.

He said the death toll rose after two more Kurdish protesters died of gunshot wounds in hospital.

City security officials and police say they are probing the circumstances of the deaths, including who opened fire first.
