Emma Radukanu creates history, wins the US Open 2021 title. 18-year-old England’s young women’s tennis sensation Emma Radukanu clinched the US Open women’s singles title on Saturday (local time).
Emma Radukanu beat Canada’s Laila Fernandez in the final to become the first British woman to win the title in 53 years.
She is also the first British female player in 44 years to win a Grand Slam singles title. 18-year-old Emma Radukanu defeated her Canadian rival 6-4, 6-3 in the final held at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.
The US Open wrote on its Twitter handle, “53 Years Wait Ended! Emma Radukanu is the first English woman to win the US Open since 1968.”
Britain’s Queen Elizabeth in a statement congratulated Radukanu on her success and said that her victory was a testament to her hard work and dedication.
The statement read, “I congratulate you on your success in winning the US Open Tennis Championships. It’s a remarkable achievement at such a young age and a testament to your hard work and dedication. I have no doubt that yours.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Twitter that Radukanu showed exceptional skill in the game.
He tweeted, “What a sensational match! Many congratulations to Emma Radukanu. You showed extraordinary skill, poise, and courage and we are all so proud of you.”
Radukanu became the first player to reach a major final. It was the first All-Teenage Major final since Serena Williams defeated Martina Hingis at the 1999 US Open.
According to wtatennis.com, she was the youngest British finalist in 62 years, the first British woman to reach a major final in 44 years, and the first British woman to reach a US Open final in 53 years.
