Diwali Will Be A Public Holiday In New York From Next Year

Diwali will be a public holiday in New York from next year, city Mayor Eric Adams announced.

New York will be declared a public holiday next year on the occasion of Diwali. City Mayor Eric Adams says it will send a message about the city’s totality.

Also, children will be able to understand the importance of this festival of lights.

Adams, in the presence of New York Assembly member Jennifer Rajkumar and New York City School Chancellor David Banks, said they learned a lot about the festival of Diwali during the campaign.

Adams said he wanted to send a message to those in New York City by declaring Diwali a public holiday. Those who celebrate this occasion as a festival.

India’s Consul General in New York Randhir Jaiswal has thanked Adams for declaring Diwali as a public holiday.

Talking to the news agency, Jaiswal said that the Indian-American community had been demanding a holiday on Diwali for a long time.

Recognizing Indian festivals in New York gives a deep meaning to diversity and pluralism. This will enable people from all walks of life to experience the ethos and heritage.

The demand for the Diwali holiday was rising continuously.

Adams said that over the past few years there had been a growing demand from hundreds of thousands of Indians living in the city to declare Diwali a school holiday.

Once the law is passed, Diwali will be a school holiday in New York City from next year.

Rajkumar, a member of the New York Assembly, highlighted that the city’s school calendar does not have enough space for the Diwali school holiday.

This week, Rajkumar introduced legislation in New York that allows Diwali to be included in the school calendar.

According to the education laws of New York, the school must be in operation for at least 180 days.

However, no further holidays can be placed in the school calendar to meet this minimum requirement of 180 days.
