Like the Lok Sabha, the issue of tension with China will not be discussed in the Rajya Sabha. Yes, the opposition may be given an opportunity for brief clarification. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will give a statement in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday at 12 noon regarding the ongoing confrontation with China.

There can be no debate in the Rajya Sabha regarding the circumstances of the border

The government on Wednesday called a meeting of leaders of all the Rajya Sabha parties and gave a clear indication that it could not be debated in the House right now due to the sensitivity of the boundary conditions. However, calling the Chinese encroachment serious, the Congress is still firm on the demand for a debate.

Tension with China arose in all-party meeting convened by Rajnath

Opposition parties are stronger in Rajya Sabha than in Lok Sabha and that’s why on behalf of the government, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh called an all-party meeting on Wednesday as a strategy to take all the parties into confidence. Apart from LAC, the meeting also consulted on the bills to be passed in the House during the monsoon session and the topics of discussion.

Leaders of almost all parties in Rajya Sabha attended it. The issue of tension with China on LAC came up. According to sources, the leaders of some parties, including the Congress, said that the defense minister’s statement in the Lok Sabha remained unilateral. On this, the opposition parties were not even given a chance to question.

Defence Minister will give statement in Rajya Sabha on the matter of tension with China

According to the sources, the Defence Minister said in the meeting that they will give a statement in the House and Asan will be ready to respond to whatever instructions are given.

In such a situation, there is no denial of the possibility that even though the dispute related to Chinese encroachment on LAC is not discussed, the Defence minister may respond to some explanation of the opposition. According to sources, the opposition parties also asked the defense minister to also inform the house about what happened in the Galwan valley on June 15.

Talks between the side and the opposition to stop the Parliament without stopping

During this meeting, points of agreement were agreed between the side and the opposition for the non-stop functioning of the monsoon session. The questions of difference of opinion were discussed to avoid a confrontation in the House on the bills to be passed in the Rajya Sabha.

In view of the short duration of the monsoon session in the Corona period, the government is trying to reach an agreement with the opposition parties outside the House on all important bills. The issue of sending the bills on which there are serious differences between the government and the opposition to the Parliamentary Standing Committee or Select Committee was also discussed in the meeting.

Session can be extended if there is no consensus on passing Bills and Ordinances – Parliamentary Affairs Minister

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said in the meeting that if there is a lack of consensus on the passing of Bills and Ordinances, then the option of extending the session during the COVID period may have to be considered.

On the other hand, opposition parties called for a debate on topics such as the drastic decline in economy and employment after the lockdown, non-sharing of GST to the states, draft new National Education Policy, and Environmental Impact Assessment.

In the all-party meeting, Rajnath, Narendra Singh Tomar, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ram Gopal Yadav, Trichy Shiva were present

On behalf of the government, Narendra Singh Tomar, Thawarchand Gehlot, Prahlad Joshi, Piyush Goyal and Arjun Ram Meghwal were present along with Rajnath Singh in the all-party meeting. While the Congress was represented by Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Jairam Ramesh, TMC’s Derek O’Brien, SP’s Ram Gopal Yadav, RJD’s Manoj Jha, DMK’s Trichy Siva and TRS’s Keshav Rao etc.
