The curfew imposed in the Patiala district was lifted on Saturday morning following a clash between pro-Khalistan organizations and members of Hindu organizations on Friday.

Some other organizations led by the pro-Khalistan Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) also started a protest march at the same time.

Around 11 in the morning, activists of Hindu organizations and activists of pro-Khalistan organizations had a face-off outside the Shri Kali Devi temple.

As the tension escalated, stone pelting started from both sides.

The stone-pelting between the two sides lasted for about half an hour.

During this, some activists of pro-Khalistan organizations attacked with swords, in which the station in-charge (SHO) Karanvir Singh was injured. A total of 20 people have been injured in the collision.

To bring the situation under control, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh fired five aerial shots from his pistol.

Even after this, the crowd did not calm down, so he asked a policeman to fire in the air from an AK-47, after that, the crowd dispersed.

The district administration closed the temple around 1 pm and it was opened after 3 pm.

Patiala Range Inspector General of Police (IG) Rakesh Agarwal and District Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sahni took stock of Shri Kali Devi temple.

After the situation was brought under control, the police took out a flag march in the city. The holiday was also declared in all the schools.

The IG said that the march of Hindu organizations was to be taken out through the Arya Samaj temple in the inner parts of the city, but due to rumors, two parties gathered near the temple.

He said that many people who spoiled the atmosphere had come from Patiala and other districts, which would be investigated.

DC said that a meeting of both the organizations has been called on Saturday so that the matter can be resolved through talks.
