CPEC Authority Bill Passed, Parliamentary Committee Approved

CPEC authority bill passed, a parliamentary committee approved: Pakistan.

A parliamentary committee of Pakistan passed the China Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority (Amendment) Bill 2020 with a majority. The bill was withheld by opposition members during the last meeting.

The Bill was discussed by the Standing Committee on Planning and Development of the National Assembly under the chairmanship of Junaid Akbar, leader of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

After a detailed discussion, the committee agreed to decide on the future of the bill through voting. Opposition members said their objections about creating CPEC authority have not been resolved.

The formation of a new authority will have an adverse effect on the CPEC project rather than being of any benefit.

It is noteworthy that under the One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative, China is providing full financial support to CPEC. While India is opposing CPEC due to its passing through POK.

Pakistan has created a special security division of 15 thousand personnel with nine thousand Pakistani army personnel and six thousand paramilitary personnel for the protection of CPEC.

Pakistani employees angry over Chinese companies’ pay discrimination, performed strongly

In Karachi city of Pakistan, thousands of laborers on Wednesday protested against the low wages paid by Chinese companies.

He said that companies are paying more salary to Chinese laborers who do like them, while they are being paid less. This discrimination is happening to them in their own country.

Earlier, The News International had reported that the Chinese workers recruited by the Punjab Mass Transit Authority, who worked as the Orange Line Metro train, had higher salaries than the Pakistani employees.

This metro train has started in Lahore.

Pay significantly less than China’s employees

Apart from the variation in the salary of the citizens of China and Pakistan working in various projects of Pakistan, the currency given to them is also different.

Chinese employees get a salary in yuan while Pakistani employees get a salary in Pakistani rupees.

The salaries of Chinese employees also affect Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves, which are already in a poor state.

The price of one yuan was 24.02 Pakistani rupees on Wednesday.
