Congress appointed Tamradhwaj Sahu as Senior Supervisor for Gujarat Local Body Election: Gujarat Local Body Election 2021. The Congress on Sunday appointed Tamradhwaj Sahu a senior observer to oversee the election campaign and coordination for the upcoming local body elections in Gujarat.

The state election commission said on Saturday that elections for the six municipal corporations of Gujarat will be held on February 21 and for 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats, and 231 taluka panchayats on February 28.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has appointed Tamradhwaj Sahu as the All India Congress Committee (AIIC) observer to oversee and coordinate the upcoming local body elections in Gujarat with immediate effect.

He said that he would discharge his duties in consultation and close coordination with AICC in-charge of Gujarat, Rajiv Satav. Sahu is a senior Congress leader and is currently the Home Minister in the Chhattisgarh government.

The counting of votes for the six municipal corporations will be held on February 23. Votes will be counted on March 23 for 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats.

Elections will be held in six municipal corporations Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar, and Bhavnagar. These elections were to be held in October-November last year but will now be due to the outbreak of the Corona virus.

The elections for local bodies in Gujarat will be on 21 and 28 February, but the opposition has questioned these dates. State Election Commission Secretary Mahesh Joshi said that with the announcement of local body elections on Saturday, the Model Election Code of Conduct has come into force in the constituencies.

By-elections will be held in six metropolitan municipalities – Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Vadodara, 81 municipalities and 31 district panchayats, 231 tehsil panchayats, and other vacant seats.

The nomination process for the Metropolitan Councils will start from February 1, while the last date will be February 6. Enrollment for district and tehsil panchayats and municipalities will start from February 8 and its last date will be February 13.

Polling for metropolitan municipalities will be held on 21 and counting on 23 February, while district, tehsil panchayat, and municipalities will vote on 28 February and counting on 2 March.

With the announcement of election programs, questions have started coming up. Former Leader of Ahmedabad Mahanagar Municipality Opposition Dinesh Sharma says that by looking at the election dates, it seems that the Election Commission office is in the BJP’s state headquarters.

After the election results of the metropolitan municipalities, it is decided to fix the date of voting in the district and tehsil panchayats. There is an attempt to influence their elections, which will not succeed.
