Chetan Chauhan: His batting in Green Park Stadium Kanpur. Former Indian cricket team opener Chetan Chauhan passed away on Sunday, 16 August. His batting in Green Park with Gavaskar was famous in the 1970s- 80s. Veteran cricketer Chetan Chauhan had a deep bond with Kanpur. He showed his batting at Greenpark against teams like England, West Indies, Pakistan with Sunil Gavaskar as opener between 1970-80. His bat played well here. His death sparked a wave of mourning among the city’s cricket lovers.

He was hospitalized last month after being found corona positive. Cricket passed away 73 years ago after undergoing prolonged treatment. People are shocked to hear the news of his death untimely in the sports world. All the players including the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Sourav Ganguly, captain Virat Kohli, mourned Chetan’s death.

Indian captain Virat Kohli, who has played for the Delhi Ranji team, also mourned the demise of the former opener on social media. Kohli wrote I am shocked to hear the news of Shri Chetan Chauhan’s death. May his soul rest in peace and my prayers and thoughts are with his family in this difficult time.

Saurabh Chaturvedi, who was in the BCCI official scorer panel from UP, said that Chetan Chauhan’s opening pair with Sunil Gavaskar was in discussion among cricket lovers like Sachin and Sehwag. When he reached to play in the field, he could hear the applause.

Four Test matches were played at Greenpark

In the year 1972–73, Chetan Chauhan scored 22 runs in the first innings and one run in the second innings in the Test match at Greenpark under the captaincy of Ajit Wadekar between India and England. After this, he scored 40 in the first innings and 79 in the second innings against West Indies in 1978–79.

In the year 1979-80, he contributed 58 runs in the first innings and 84 runs in the second innings of the Test match from Australia. He played his last Test match at Greenpark in 1979–80. In the match between India and Pakistan, they scored six runs in the first innings, while in the second innings, played a half-century innings of 61 runs.
