Chandrayaan 3 success inspires the World: S Jaishankar’s BRICS Summit recollection.

At the BRICS summit in Johannesburg, amidst the resounding success of Chandrayaan 3, the sentiment was unanimous – India had achieved a remarkable feat,” recounted External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, reflecting on the historic moments of that gathering.

During his keynote address at a conference, Minister Jaishankar fondly recollected his experience at the BRICS summit held in Johannesburg, which coincided with the Chandrayaan 3 lunar landing.

With a sense of national pride, he declared, “India has ignited a flame of inspiration that now burns brightly across the globe.”

The Chandrayaan 3 mission, set to make its lunar descent on the very day of the BRICS conference in South Africa, became a source of national pride and international admiration.

Minister Jaishankar shared, “While we were physically present at the BRICS summit, our hearts and minds were in Bengaluru.”

“Throughout that event, the Prime Minister and I were consumed by thoughts of Chandrayaan alone.”

“We organized the G20 not just as an official gathering, but also as a national celebration,” he explained.

He went on to explain how India’s influence had extended far beyond its borders, saying, “Through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, we have reshaped global perceptions about solar energy.”

“Today, our efforts with the International Year of Millets aim to revolutionize global dietary habits.”

“Moreover, we have established a collaborative framework for disaster management through the Coalition for Disaster Response.”

“India is no longer just a geographical entity; it is a nation perceived as responsible, possessing innovative ideas,” he emphasized.”

Highlighting the significance of the G20 presidency, Minister Jaishankar stated, “In 2023, India stands at a pivotal juncture. Our G20 presidency has reshaped our global identity, positioning us distinctly.”

He also underscored India’s vital role on the international stage, saying, “The United Nations, established in the 1940s with 50 member countries, now encompasses over 200 nations.”

“As the world’s most populous country and the fifth-largest economy, India’s presence in the UN is imperative. To exclude us would cast doubt on the UN’s credibility.”

Minister Jaishankar, speaking at an event at Hindu College, Delhi University, further highlighted India’s contributions during the global pandemic.

“He was proud to say, “India played a significant role by providing vaccines to many nations in need.”

Turning his attention to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, he commented, “The ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine has far-reaching implications, affecting the cost and availability of fuel, food grain prices, access to fertilizers, and causing inflationary pressures on the global economy.”

With India hosting the G20 Summit this year, Minister Jaishankar reiterated its uniqueness, saying, “Our presidency is characterized by a singular focus – Chandrayaan’s triumphant landing.”

Notably, the theme for India’s G20 presidency is “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

The G20 comprises 19 member countries, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, The UK and the USA are represented, as is the European Union.
