Center has now decided to conserve 13 major rivers of the country.

13 rivers including Yamuna, Narmada, and Jhelum will be protected, Ministry of Forest and Environment took over the responsibility, DPR issued

After the initial success of the campaign to make Ganga clean, the Center has now decided to conserve 13 major rivers of the country including Yamuna, Narmada, Jhelum, and Mahanadi.

At present, the responsibility of this is handled by the Ministry of Forest and Environment.

It has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Forestry Conservation of these rivers flowing through 24 states and two union territories.

It is proposed to spend about 20 thousand crore rupees on this in the coming years.

States will be responsible.

The responsibility of implementing this entire scheme will be on the states while the center will monitor it.

The special thing is that this entire plan is being linked to fulfilling the commitment made in CAP-26, including meeting the challenges of the future.

Under this, India has set a target of reducing its estimated carbon emissions by one billion tonnes by 2030, with a target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2070.

Plantation will be done on both sides.

In such a situation, under the plan of conservation of 13 rivers through forestry, the intensive plantation will be done on both sides of the rivers.

This is expected to increase the forest area to 7,417 sq km. Also, plantations will help absorb 50.21 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in the next 10 years.

At the same time, it will help to absorb 74.76 million tonnes of carbon dioxide in 20 years.

According to the DPR, this will also reduce the groundwater recharge of 1,887 cubic meters per year and soil erosion by 64 thousand square meters.

Issued DPR.

Union Forest and Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav released the DPR related to the conservation of 13 rivers on Monday.

On this occasion, he said that the conservation of about 202 rivers along with these 13 major rivers will also have to be included in this campaign.

This work will not be successful without the protection of tributaries. To make this campaign successful, he emphasized public awareness.

These 13 rivers will be protected.

The 13 major rivers for which the DPR has been prepared include Jhelum, Sutlej, Chenab, Ravi, Beas, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Luni, Narmada, Godavari, Mahanadi, Krishna, and Kaveri.

Different models of the plantation.

A separate plan of conservation has been made for each river according to its area.

In these, different methods of plantation have been proposed. 667 treatment and plantation models have been proposed for 13 rivers.

Narmada can be started.

Indicated that it can be started from Narmada. Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who was present on the occasion, mentioned the ongoing campaign for the conservation of the river Ganga and said that even before Namami Gange, many schemes were run to make Ganga clean.

But the plans failed due to a lack of public participation. He claimed that the Ganges river is currently one of the 10 cleanest rivers in the world.

However, our efforts will continue till it gets the status of the cleanest river in the world. Minister of State for Forest and Environment Ashwini Choubey also addressed the program.
