Big conspiracy failed, ULFA-I tried to terrorize Assam on Independence Day; Police arrested 15 including 3 women. ULFA-I, a banned organization in Assam, had claimed to plant a bomb to terrorize the state on the occasion of Independence Day. There was a stir in the state after receiving the news of the bomb. Assam Police has now taken major action in this case. Police have arrested a total of 15 people including three women.
Assam Police Chief Public Relations Officer Pranab Jyoti Goswami said that Assam Police conducted a campaign in various parts of the state with the technical assistance of NIA. He further said that this joint raid was a big success and 15 people including three women were caught on Saturday night.
Big Conspiracy Foiled: Many facts came to light after the interrogation
Describing it as a major success in the investigation of planting IED-like material during the Independence Day celebrations, Assam Police said that the raids were conducted after gathering intelligence for a long time in coordination with the NIA. Police further said that after preliminary interrogation of the arrested persons, facts proving the crime have come to light.
The police declared a Rs 5 lakh reward
More information about the conspiracy is expected to be obtained after a long interrogation. Goswami said that three persons each were arrested from Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur districts, two each from Jorhat and Guwahati and one each from Tinsukia, Sadiya, Nagaon, Nalbari and Tamulpur. At the same time, the police had announced a cash reward of up to Rs 5 lakh for reliable information identifying the people involved in the case.
