Atlas Ramachandran Died In Dubai On Sunday

Atlas Ramachandran died in Dubai, had also worked in 13 films.

Noted Indian businessman and filmmaker Atlas Ramachandran died on Sunday in Dubai at the age of 80. His real name was MM Ramachandran.

According to media reports, Ramachandran was admitted to the hospital on Saturday after he complained of chest pain.

He breathed his last after suffering a heart attack here. He had been ill for several days.

Famous Indian businessman Ramachandran was the founder of the now-defunct Atlas Jewelry and had been living in Dubai for a long time.

In August this year, he celebrated his 80th birthday at Bur residence in Dubai.

Born in Kerala, Ramachandran was very fond of films. He produced several Malayalam films and acted and directed 13 films.

The jewelry business started 30 years ago

Ramachandran was born in 1942 in the Thrissur district of Kerala.

Due to his unique style of advertising for his Atlas jewelry business, he got the name, Atlas Ramachandran. Ramachandran started Atlas Jewelry nearly three decades ago.

It had about 50 branches in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. They also had branches in Kerala. Atlas Group also forayed into the healthcare, real estate, and film sectors.

Arrested for fraud.

Ramachandran also worked as a bank employee before starting the business. Ramachandran was fond of films and acted and produced in Malayalam films.

Ramachandran produced the popular Malayalam films Vaishali and Sukrutham.

In 2015, Ramachandran was arrested in Dubai on charges of financial fraud and jailed for three years. He is survived by his wife Indira and two children Dr. Manju and Shrikant.

This is how the business started.

Ramachandran graduated in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics. Later he was elected as a Probationary Officer in the State Bank of India.

After this, he worked as a field officer, accountant, and manager at the State Bank of Travancore. By the time he left the bank, he was the superintendent of over 100 branches.

Ramachandran moved to Kuwait City in 1974 to work in the Commercial Bank of Kuwait. There he was the Administration Manager of the International Division of the Bank.

In Kuwait, he saw that there is a great demand for gold jewelry. In view of this, he opened the first Atlas showroom in Souk Al Watya, Kuwait.
