Andhra Pradesh Was The First State To Be Formed

Andhra Pradesh was the first state to be formed on a linguistic basis after the big mass movement, followed by many other states.

The demand for a new state based on the Deccan language was met when Madras was carved out of Madras on 1 November 1953. It was named Andhra Pradesh. It was carved out of 14 districts from Madras.

However, Potti Sreemalu, who strongly raised its demand, was not alive at that time to see this moment. He died on 15 December 1952 after a 53-day hunger strike.

There was a very fierce movement of students here to demand this. However, those who demanded the formation of a new state wanted the state to be named Talangana based on the Telugu language.

His dream was fulfilled on 2 June 2014. Telangana was carved out of Andhra Pradesh. Let us tell you that the State Reorganization Act was passed in July 1956.

The demand for a separate state on linguistic basis has been very old.

To this demand, the President of the Constituent Assembly, Rajendra Prasad, appointed a four-member committee under the chairmanship of Allahabad High Court Retired Judge SK Dhar.

This commission opposed the proposal of state formation on a linguistic basis.

After this, the Congress Working Committee.

In its Jaipur session, a committee of Jawaharlal Nehru, Ballabhbhai Patel and Pattabhi Sitaramaiya, also rejected the demand for a reorganization of states on linguistic grounds, believing it to be correct.

Only after this the Telugu-speaking people of Madras State started the movement under the leadership of Poti Sri Ramullu.

However, in its manifesto of 1917, Congress had talked about the formation of states on a linguistic basis after independence.

After independence, Mahatma Gandhi also asked Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the country, to fulfill this demand.

But by then his opinion had changed. He believed that the country has been divided in the name of religion, in such a situation, the formation of a state based on language can harm the unity and integrity of the country.

At that time there were many other leaders in support of Nehru, including Sardar Patel C. Rajagopalachari. At the same time, Ambedkar wanted states to be formed on the basis of language.

He also proposed one language one state. He had also spoken of the formation of the state of Maharashtra, whose capital was proposed to be the then Bombay.

However, many people disagreed with his proposal. After this, the demand started on the basis of language. In 1966, Punjab came into existence after the forced movement.

On 1 May 1960, due to conflict between Marathi and Gujarati speakers, the state of Bombay was divided and the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat were formed.

Similarly, Assam was divided into Nagaland on 1 December 1963 after the Naga movement. On 1 November 1966, Haryana was divided by dividing Punjab. On 25 January 1971, Himachal Pradesh was given full statehood.

On 21 January 1972, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya were given full statehood. April 26, 1975 AD Sikkim became the 22nd state of India. On 20 February 1987, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh were given full statehood.
