Accused Sandeep Nair ready to become a government witness, NIA court accepts plea: Kerala Gold smuggling case. Sandeep Nair, the fourth accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, has agreed to become a government witness.

He has filed a petition in this regard in the special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) based in Kochi. In the petition, he has said, “I am willing to share all the information related to this case.” His petition has been accepted.

The Customs and Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigating gold smuggling has also registered a case against Nair. Investigation agencies have also conducted raids at her house in Thiruvananthapuram.

It is known that Sandeep Nair was arrested on 11 July along with Swapna Suresh, the main accused of gold smuggling. Recently, the special NIA court had extended the judicial custody of accused Swapna Suresh till October 8.

In the case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has questioned Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s former Principal Secretary M Shivshankar by sitting with the chief accused Swapna Suresh. According to reports, the proximity of Swapna Suresh and Shivshankar has also been revealed in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation.

Significantly, the smuggling of 30 kg of gold worth about Rs 15 crore was uncovered on July 5 at Thiruvananthapuram Airport. Many accused have been arrested in this case. The former principal secretary of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the then secretary of the IT department, M. Sivashankar, have been suspended after Swapna Suresh’s name was revealed and his relationship was revealed.

This matter has become completely political in the state. Several opposition parties, including BJP, have opened a front against the state government. Just a few days ago, police charged sticks on members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad- ABVP) protesting outside their house in Valanchery demanding the resignation of Minister of State KT Jaleel.
