AAP Has Taken Steps To Become An Opposition Alternative

AAP has taken steps to become an opposition alternative, after BJP and Congress, the third such party to have the government in two states.

By winning power in Punjab with Majority and opening an account for the first time in Goa, the AAP has taken serious steps towards making a place in the national arena of opposition politics.

Within nine years of party formation, AAP has become the third party after BJP and Congress to form government in at least two states by securing a nearly three-fourths majority in Punjab.

AAP crossing the border of the Union Territory of Delhi: A serious challenge for congress.

AAP has posed a serious challenge to Congress on the basis of this success.

Not only this, it will not be possible to ignore AAP’s convener Arvind Kejriwal for the satraps of many regional parties involved in the competition to take forward the opposition politics.

This achievement of AAP of spreading its feet out of Delhi by securing more than 42 percent votes in Punjab and winning 92 seats is of great importance politically.

The record was made by AAP.

In fact, during the last three decades, in the politics of the country, apart from BJP, Congress, and Left parties, no other party has been able to form government in two states.

Be it TMC chief Mamata Banerjee or TRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao, active with the ambition to hold the flag of national opposition politics. Even their parties have not been able to do such a miracle.

Dominance in opposition.

Be it the SP, RJD, DMK, and Shiv Sena, which have been active in the politics of the opposition camp, or Sharad Pawar’s NCP, none of them has been able to gain power in more than one state.

After losing the power of Punjab, Congress also has the government on its own in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh only.

Trying to get national status.

To become a national party, it is necessary to get more than six percent of the votes in four states.

The AAP now needs to secure six percent votes in only one state after Delhi, Punjab, and Goa to achieve the status of a national party.

The party seems to be gearing up to achieve this goal and register a strong presence in the assembly elections to be held in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh later this year.

The risk of challenging the BJP.

It is interesting to note that during his call to make AAP a national alternative, Kejriwal has hinted at following the line of soft Hindutva and nationalism which became the centerpiece of national discourse after the rise of BJP in national politics.

In response to the BJP’s politics around Lord Ram, Kejriwal did not shy away from re-expressing his Hanuman devotion before his address.

Visited Hanuman Mandir.

After the victory of Punjab, he first went to the Hanuman temple and then gave his address. While repeatedly chanting Bharat Mata and Vande Mataram at the beginning and end of the address.

He made it clear that on the narrative of nationalism and soft Hindutva, he would try to make AAP a national alternative without taking the risk of challenging the BJP.
