OLA to set up a battery innovation center in Bangalore, a company to invest $ 500 million.

Electric vehicle company Ola Electric has announced an investment of $ 500 million in the establishment of a state-of-the-art Battery Innovation Center ie BIC  in Bengaluru.

The company said in a statement on Monday that BIC will be the world’s largest and most advanced cell research and development center with more than 165 state-of-the-art lab equipment related to all aspects of cell research and development.

The center will have all the capabilities of battery pack design, fabrication, and testing in one place, the statement said.

According to the statement, BIC will recruit 500 Ph.D. holders and engineers and will also get the support of 1,000 researchers from India and other global centers.

Bhavish Agarwal, Founder, and Chief Executive Officer, of Ola Electric, said that BIC will have state-of-the-art laboratories and state-of-the-art equipment for battery innovation and accelerate India’s journey towards becoming a global hub for electric vehicles.

A glimpse of Ola’s electric car surfaced.

It is worth noting that Ola Electric is going to launch an electric car in the Indian market soon. The company’s CEO Bhavish Agarwal gave information about the upcoming electric car on Twitter.

Agarwal confirmed that the company is working on an electric model. He also wrote that this electric car will be the sportiest in India.

The new teaser suggests that the upcoming electric car from Ola will be a low-slung, wide car with a coupe-like roof.

However, it may not be a 2-door sports car, but a 4-door sedan that will get a bigger battery pack for longer ranges

Sources say that Ola may fire 400-500 employees in the coming days.

Ola’s core mobility business employs 1,000-1,100 employees. Ola is shutting down other expensive businesses only to focus on the electric segment.
