The Indian Coast Guard (Coast Guard) has arrested 88 Bangladeshi fishermen for fishing in the Indian waters. A Coast Guard spokesman gave this information in a statement.
He said the incident happened on Tuesday when the personnel of the force while patrolling inside about 15 nautical miles of the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) adjoining Bengal.
The personnel intercepted Bangladesh’s illegally entering Indian maritime territory near Bangdhuni Island, they saw three boats in which the fishermen were catching fish.
The force’s onboard personnel tried to establish communication with the people aboard those boats, but they did not respond.
Not only this, but those boats also increased their speed and tried to run towards Bangladesh in fear of being caught.
In such a situation, the Coast Guard ship shared this information with the ACB of the force operating in that area and after a coordinated operation by both, 88 Bangladeshi fishermen aboard the three boats were apprehended.
All the fishermen and boats caught in the afternoon were handed over to the Fraserganj Marine Police in South 24 Parganas district, the spokesman said.
