Zorawar Light Tank: India Successfully Tests 25-Tonne Tank for Deployment on China Border

India successfully tests the 25-tonne Zorawar light tank, designed for rapid deployment on the China border. The air-transportable tank fired shells with precision, enhancing combat capability in high-altitude areas. Learn more about this defense milestone.

Zorawar Light Tank: Weighing only 25 tonnes, fired shells heavily during the test

The power of the Zorawar tank will be seen on the Chinese border. India on Friday successfully tested the light tank Zorawar, weighing only 25 tonnes. During the test, the tank fired shells heavily on the target and performed exceptionally well, efficiently completing all the intended objectives. It is being developed to enhance the combat capability of the army on the border with China.

It is a versatile platform. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and L&T Defense are developing an air-transportable tank, designed for rapid deployment on the China border. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh described the successful tests of the tank as an important milestone towards India’s goal of self-reliance in defense systems and technologies.

The initial test was successful

The Defense Ministry said, ‘DRDO successfully conducted the initial test of Zorawar on September 13, which is capable of deployment in high altitude areas. The performance of the tank was rigorously evaluated and it fired shells with accuracy on all the designated targets. The Indian Army is considering deploying more than 350 light tanks. Most of them will be deployed in the mountainous border areas.’

It is worth noting that since the clash in the Galwan Valley, the army has taken several steps to enhance combat capabilities. Easily transportable M-777 ultra-light howitzer guns have been deployed in the mountainous areas along the LAC, including Arunachal Pradesh. Heavy tanks and infantry fighting vehicles like T-90 and T-72 have also been deployed in eastern Ladakh.
