Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the ‘White Paper on Indian Economy’ in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

The Finance Minister in his interim budget speech had announced that the government would bring out a white paper on the economy by 2014, highlighting the economic mismanagement in the 10 years of the UPA regime.

The ‘White Paper on Indian Economy’ tabled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha said the UPA government inherited a healthy economy ripe for more reforms, but left it dysfunctional in its 10 years in office.

When the tenure of the UPA government began in 2004, the Indian economy was growing at the rate of eight percent.

The white paper said that investors went abroad during the UPA regime. Also during that time, the banking sector was running into losses.

The economy was in crisis due to fiscal deficit. The white paper said that the common people were suffering from inflation during the rule of the UPA government. UPA’s tenure ruined the economy.

Nirmala Sitharaman said the NDA government has overcome the crisis of those years and the economy is firmly placed on a highly sustainable growth path with all-round growth.

She said that now we have to see where we were in 2014 and where we are now.
