Voting for one of the two vacant seats in Rajya Sabha from UP on 24, BJP looking for a candidate. Two of the 31 Rajya Sabha seats in the quota of Uttar Pradesh are vacant after the death of Amar Singh, a Rajya Sabha member after senior Samajwadi Party leader and former Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma.
The Election Commission has kept voting on the seat on the account of Beni Prasad Verma of these on August 24. The tenure of Beni Prasad Verma and Amar Singh is till July 4, 2022.
While the fight over the voting in this one seat of Uttar Pradesh is easy, but it is very difficult to decide the name of the candidate. The seat fell vacant after the death of Samajwadi Party leader Beni Prasad Verma, but the question of who is sent to the Rajya Sabha has become extremely difficult.
The BJP candidate is certain to win the Rajya Sabha by-election in this lone seat, given the number of MLAs. The BJP now has to decide whether the BJP sends a leader of the state to this seat or whether a leader of another state will be sent from here to the Rajya Sabha and a central adjustment will be made.
State BJP strategists are currently in no position to give any indication in the case. They also say that Delhi should decide. Patra and Shahnawaz Hussain are yet to make political adjustments in Delhi politics.
Along with this, BJP’s former Uttar Pradesh president Dr. Laxmikant Vajpayee is also a contender, who even started getting congratulations after reports of him becoming the Governor of Madhya Pradesh were flown on social media.
His claim is also becoming very strong in view of the hot Brahmin politics in the state at this time. It is being decided that a Brahmin will be sent. Among these, former state president Dr. Laxmikant Vajpayee may have a name from Varanasi and nearby districts.
As per the election process of the Rajya Sabha, the BJP candidate is set to win the by-elections. Therefore, the biggest question is in the discussion among the people whether the BJP sends any ground leader of the state to this seat or adjusts the leader of another state by sending it to Rajya Sabha from here.
After the formation of the Narendra Modi government in the country in 2014, Uttar Pradesh sent leaders from outside the state to the upper house on the strength of MLAs. These include Hardeep Puri with late Manohar Parrikar and Arun Jaitley and BJP national spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao.
Even after 2014, the BJP sent a large number of Rajya Sabha to those who left the other party and joined the BJP. Among these are SP’s Sanjay Seth, Neeraj Shekhar, and Surendra Singh Nagar. With this, BJP sent Dr. Anil Aggarwal and Sakaldeep Rajbhar to Rajya Sabha.
Nine seats will be vacant again in November
Considering the strength of the number of MLAs from Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha, there is a quota of 31 seats. Of these, 15 are from BJP, eight from SP, four from BSP and two from Congress are in the upper house. Two seats are vacant due to the demise of SP’s Beni Prasad Verma and Amar Singh, who was expelled from the SP.
After 24 August, nine seats will be vacated from the state on 25 November this year. Among them, the term of four of Samajwadi Party, two each of BJP and BSP, and one member of Congress will end.
It is believed that in the last November or December, there will be voting for these nine seats. Of these, the Bharatiya Janata Party can win eight seats while the SP has one seat from 45 MLAs. Apart from this, with the help of Congress and Rashtriya Lok Dal, Samajwadi Party can also push for one more seat.
