Violent clashes between the legislators of the ruling party and the opposition in the Bengal assembly show that the Mamata government was not ready to discuss the heart-wrenching incident of Birbhum.

It is also not hidden from anyone that she did not even want a CBI inquiry into this incident. When the Calcutta High Court handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI.

After all, the horrific incident of Birbhum shook the whole country, why should it not have been discussed in the Legislative Assembly?

The worse thing is that the members of the ruling party not only refused the discussion but also beat up the BJP MLAs who were demanding discussion.

Generally, the opposition is accused of rioting, pushing, and beating in the legislative houses, but in the Bengal Legislative Assembly, the members of the ruling party are also under the purview of this charge.

It is another matter that only BJP MLAs were held responsible for this violence and five of them were also suspended for a year.

This is nothing but arbitrariness, as the Supreme Court had recently declared the year-long suspension of BJP MLAs of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly unconstitutional.

Not surprisingly, BJP MLAs who have been suspended from the Bengal Assembly also approach the Supreme Court.

Be that as it may, the incident of fighting between the ruling party and the MLAs in the Bengal Legislative Assembly is not new. Such violent incidents have happened there before as well.
