Violence broke out before elections in Bangladesh, arson at many polling stations; and Schools were also set on fire.
Some unidentified people in Bangladesh also set fire to four polling stations and some primary schools.
Police are investigating the fire in Ghazipur on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, but they also suspect that unidentified people set fire to schools in the middle of the night to disrupt Sunday’s elections.
Ghazipur police chief Qazi Shafiqul Alam said that we have increased patrolling and are on high alert to prevent any untoward incident.
Opposition parties were accused of instigating protests.
The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which is boycotting the elections for the second time in three, says Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League is trying to legitimize a sham vote, which could lead to a fourth victory for her party.
Hasina has rejected demands for the BNP’s resignation and handing over power to a neutral authority to conduct elections, accusing the opposition party of instigating anti-government protests.
Call for a strike for two days.
BNP has asked citizens to abstain from voting and called for a two-day strike in the country from Saturday.
The streets of Dhaka were deserted on Saturday with security forces patrolling the city in armored vehicles.
Police said arsonists attacked polling stations in the north-eastern districts of Moulvibazar and Habiganj, adding that similar incidents have been reported across the country in the past two days.

Police arrested two people on Thursday night after local citizens tried to set fire to a school in the coastal district of Khulna.
Khulna police chief Syedur Rehman said an attempt was made to set fire to another primary school building in the same area on Friday, but was averted by locals.
