Amid the ongoing Taliban attacks in Afghanistan over the past few days.

US Central Command (Centcom) Chief General Kenneth McKenzie said on Sunday that Washington would continue to support Afghan security forces through airstrikes in countering the terrorist group.

The US is supporting the war-torn country of Afghanistan amid constant attacks and terror by the Taliban.

US General McKenzie said, ‘The US has increased airstrikes in support of Afghan forces over the past several days and we will continue to build this support of support in the coming weeks.’

According to the Voice of America, (VOA), US defense officials are still authorized to support Afghan forces with US airstrikes against the Taliban until August 31, until the end of US troop withdrawal.

The Taliban continue to claim control of 85 percent of Afghanistan.

On this Saturday, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that ‘Afghan security forces are strengthening their forces around major population centers amid efforts to recapture lost territories from the Taliban.

With the US only weeks away from the country, efforts are being made to slow the Taliban’s movement.

Also, Austin pointed out that ‘the first thing to do is to make sure they can slow down the pace, and then be able to put themselves in a position where they can take back some of the advantages to the Taliban.

On attacks by the Taliban, the Defense Secretary said that Afghan military leaders are “committed” and able to block Taliban gains.

“He has the capabilities,” he said. They have the ability to make progress and blunt some of the Taliban’s progress, but we will see what happens.
