US Open: Novak Djokovic Advances To The Second Round

US Open: Novak Djokovic advances to the second round after losing a set, defeats qualifier Holger.

World number one Novak Djokovic lost a set but still made it to the second round of the US Open tennis tournament by defeating qualifier Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune of Denmark.

Top seed Djokovic won the match 6-1, 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 in four sets. Djokovic is claiming to become the first male player to complete a calendar Grand Slam since 1969.

This year he has won the Australian Open on hard court, French Open on clay court, and Wimbledon on grass court this year.

If the Serbian wins the title here, it will be his record 21st men’s singles Grand Slam title. Former six-time champion Djokovic, however, admitted it was not his best performance after defeating Rune.

“It was not one of my best performances. I mean to say that you always want the spectators in the stadium to cheer you up, but it is not always possible.

I am focused on my game and what I have to do.’ Djokovic will next take on world No. 121 Talon Grexpoor, 25, of the Netherlands, who got a place in the tournament after Roger Federer’s withdrawal.

However, Pablo Carreno Busta suffered a defeat in the first round itself. He was defeated 5-7, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6, by world number 151 of the US, Maxim Crecy, born in Paris.

American Mackie McDonald defeated 27th seed David Goffin in straight sets. Olympic singles gold medalist Alexander Zverev of Germany defeated Sam Querrey 6-4, 7-5, 6-2.

‘It was great to be back,’ said Zverev. I still remember last year’s final. I still remember that four-hour match which I unfortunately lost.

It’s awesome to be back at Arthur Ashe Stadium and have the fans back, we definitely missed him last year.

I am working very hard on many things like my serve, but I am happy that I am playing well. This is the most important thing. Last year has been very good for me.
