US-China Relations: Joe Biden May Talk To Xi Jinping

US-China Relations: US President may talk to the Chinese President in ‘the next 10 days on the Taiwan dispute.

US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he plans to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping over the next ten days.

Biden told reporters, “I think I will speak to President Xi within the next 10 days. Biden’s remarks come at a critical moment when both countries are dealing with tensions over the situation in Taiwan.

It also cast doubts on an allegedly planned visit by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to visit Taiwan next month.

Biden said the US military believes it is not a good idea for Pelosi to travel to Taiwan as planned. “The military just doesn’t think it’s a good idea,” Biden said Wednesday, quoting a White House press pool.

Chinese ambassador accuses the US of weakening the “One China” policy.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Ambassador to the US Qin Gang alleged that the US was undermining the “One China” policy through its support for Taiwan.

Qin said at the Aspen Security Forum, “We urge the United States to honor its commitments with actions and to fully implement the One China policy.”

China believes that relations with the United States have not improved since the Trump administration but expects President Biden to improve bilateral relations, the words spoken are supported by actions.

The Taiwan issue has been at the forefront of US-China relations in recent months.

China pressurizes Taiwan to fly war planes.

Taiwan and mainland China have been governed separately since defeated Nationalists retreated to the island at the end of the Chinese Civil War more than 70 years ago.

But China’s ruling Communist Party of China (CCP) sees the self-governing island as part of its territory, while it has never been controlled.

Beijing has not ruled out military force to occupy Taiwan and has maintained pressure on the democratic island with frequent warplane flights into the island’s ADIZ over the years.

An ADIZ is imposed unilaterally and is distinct from sovereign airspace, which is defined under international law as a distance of 12 nautical miles from a territory’s shoreline.
