US Backed Afghan Peace Meeting Postponed, Turkey Declared

US backed Afghan peace meeting postponed, Turkey declared. The important meeting on the Afghanistan issue in Istanbul city of Turkey was postponed.

Turkey announced this on Wednesday. The meeting was scheduled to begin on Saturday but was postponed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

The agreement with the Taliban was to be finalized in the US-backed Afghan peace meeting. The Turkish Foreign Minister said that the date of April 24 was fixed for the talks on the Afghanistan issue.

Foreign Secretary Mavlut Kavusoglu said, “We have decided to postpone this dialogue for the time being by talking with Qatar, the US, and the United Nations.”

Turkey had earlier reported that the talks, to be held jointly with the United Nations and Qatar, would run from 24 April to 4 May.

A spokesman for the Afghan government refused to make any statement on the case.

At the same time, Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem told the news Agency in a text message that he has no information about this and cannot even tell about any date after Ramadan for this meeting.

The Taliban had already indicated that it was not ready to attend the meeting. The US has said that it will start repatriating its soldiers in Afghanistan from May 1.

All troops will be withdrawn by 11 September. Here, the Taliban has accused the US of violating the agreement reached last year.

The agreement was signed between the terrorist organization and the then Trump administration in February last year. The agreement envisaged the withdrawal of all US troops from Afghanistan by May 1 this year.
