Uproar Over Three Capitals Bill In Andhra Pradesh

Uproar over three capitals bill in Andhra Pradesh, TDP members protest. There is Uproar over the three capitals of Andhra Pradesh. Now members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) protested against the bill on Sunday at the party office in Nandigama town in Krishna district.

The activists demanded that Amravati should continue as the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh. TDP leaders and cadres also chanted slogans of “Amravati is the only capital, not for three capitals”. Former minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and former MLA Tangirala Soumya participated in the protests and planted saplings at the party office.

N. Chandrababu Naidu attacked the state government

TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday attacked the YS Jaganmohan Reddy government for going ahead with the three capitals scheme, saying it had no approval of the people of Andhra Pradesh. The agitation is being planned as Amaravati is the sole capital of Andhra Pradesh starting on December 18, 2019, in the state.

This has been supported by the TDP leader. The agitation started in the state on 17 December to protest against the announcement of 3 capitals by Reddy. Significantly, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on 14 August ordered the state government to follow the status quo till the day of the next hearing regarding the decentralization act of the three capital cities on 3 August.

The bill related to the three Rajdhanis in Andhra Pradesh got the approval from the State Legislative Assembly, but this bill is stuck by going to the Legislative Council. The Legislative Council has decided to refer this bill to the Select Committee. The TDP has a majority in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council and Chandrababu’s party is against creating three state capitals. The TDP has 58 members in the Legislative Council while the ruling YSR Congress has only nine MLAs. In such a situation, TDP managed to send this bill to the Select Committee.

Under the bill that has been approved by the Legislative Assembly, Visakhapatnam has been proposed to make Andhra Pradesh the working capital, Amravati as the legislative capital and Kurnool as the judicial capital. This will be the first state in the history of the country to have three-three capital of any one state. Before this, there have been two capitals of Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh.
