UN Gets Soft On Myanmar’s Military Coup Due To Politics

UN gets soft on Myanmar’s military coup, why the US and the UK helpless in implementing tough sanctions.

Due to politics among the superpowers in the United Nations, the United Nations Security Council postponed any drastic action against the military coup in Myanmar.

The security council meeting in Myanmar on Thursday called for the release of Aung Sang Suu Kyi and other leaders without naming the military coup.

The council expressed concern only in the Emergency rather than the military coup in Myanmar.

UN gets soft: The Security Council said that the Myanmar army had taken over power and declared a state of emergency for a year due to fraud in the elections held there.

The United Nations statement comes at a time when the United States said a day ago that there was a military coup in Myanmar.

The US Secretary of State said that after observing and assessing the entire political scenario of Myanmar, the US has reached this conclusion.

Prior to this, the Biden administration in the US spoke of sanctions after the military coup in Myanmar.

The United Nations itself had asked all developed countries to come forward to protest against the military coup in Myanmar. The question is, what happened then that the United Nations became lenient on the Myanmar coup.

In fact, the Security Council could not form an opinion about the military coup in Myanmar. Russia and China, unlike the US and Western countries, did not insist on a Myanmar military coup.

Russia and China have softened the stand on the military in Myanmar on the Security Council. However, China had already said on the military coup that everyone should respect the Constitution in Myanmar.

China did not even name the couplet at that time. China’s statement came when the United States and Western countries, including the United Nations, expressed concern over the killing of democracy in Myanmar.

In the Security Council, instead of any harsh sanctions against the Myanmar army, the talk was limited to the release of only Aung Song and other leaders. Bagher, who referred to the military coup in Myanmar, said the emergency was a matter of concern.

Significantly, the proposal on the Myanmar coup in the Security Council was prepared by Britain, but the language of the proposal was quite soft towards the military coup due to opposition from Russia and China. The military coup was not used anywhere in this proposal.
