Trump Threatens India
Trump Threatens India: Trump threatens to hike tariffs on Indian imports within 24 hours due to India’s Russian oil trade. India hits back at the US and EU for double standards.
Trump again threatened India, saying, – I will increase the tariff in 24 hours. India is not a good partner. US President Donald Trump once again threatened India, saying that he will increase the tariff heavily. He said on Tuesday, “India is buying goods from Russia. They are fueling the war machine in a way. We have agreed on 25 percent, but I think I will increase it significantly in the next 24 hours.”
US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he would increase the tariff on imports from India “significantly” from the current rate of 25% in the next 24 hours, because India is continuously buying Russian oil. Trump said in an interview with a leading news agency, “They are fueling the war machine, and if they are going to do this, I will not be happy.”
He further said that the main problem with India is that its tariffs are very high. He did not reveal any new tariff rate for India.
US President Donald Trump had asked India to stop buying oil from Russia, but India did not do so. Trump has vented his anger over this. He has again threatened to increase tariffs. He said that India is “buying huge quantities of Russian oil” and selling it at “huge profits”.
Trump said on Monday, “He does not care how many people the Russian war machine is killing in Ukraine.”
Retaliating, India hit back unusually sharply at the US and the EU for “unfairly and absurdly” targeting New Delhi for buying Russian crude oil.
India pointed to double standards in targeting it on the issue and said that both the US and the EU continue their trade relations with Russia. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Monday evening, “Unlike our case, such trade is not even a necessary national obligation.”

Europe-Russia trade includes not only energy, but also fertilizers, mining products, chemicals, iron and steel, and machinery and transport equipment, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
