Trump Shows In Lowa, He Still Rules The GOP – Despite His Deepening Criminal Peril

Trump shows in Iowa, he still rules the GOP – despite his deepening criminal peril.

Trump only needed ten minutes to demonstrate why his mounting criminal accusations are not yet loosening his hold on the Republican presidential nomination and why his rivals will find it so difficult to defeat him.

An American Idol-style audition in Iowa, the first-in-the-nation caucus state, was the first showcase including all poll-leading GOP candidates on the same stage and was overshadowed by the ex-president’s escalating legal risk on Friday.

However, his closest challengers refrained from bringing up a legal tangle that might be a negative in the general election if Trump is nominated out of concern about upsetting his still sizable grassroots support.

The room’s stampeding elephants were faced by minor contenders who had far less to lose. – but were met with a chorus of boos or complete silence.

Even so, Trump was unable to escape the fact that his campaign appears to be more about him regaining the president and erasing his criminal past than it is about implementing an agenda that would likely be even more radical and disruptive than it was during his first term.

To the song “Only in America” by Brooks & Dunn, each contender entered the room.

The words, however, echoed Trump’s uncertain future when he arrived: “One kid dreams of fame and money. One child assists with the rent.

Trump shows in Iowa, he still rules the GOP: One might wind up in jail or prison. One might even win the presidency.

Trump was making his first major public appearance since special counsel Jack Smith slapped him with new charges Thursday over his hoarding of classified documents at his Florida home after leaving office.

However, Trump mainly disregarded a flurry of litigation that could have forced him to divide his time between the courtroom and the campaign trail next year.

Trump was the only one of the 13 Republican candidates to receive a standing ovation before he even spoke. He did criticize the Biden administration for using justice as a political tool, in his opinion.

If I wasn’t running, no one would be after me. Trump has made an effort to make his precarious position the central topic of his campaign by portraying himself as the victim of political persecution.

Or if I was losing badly, no one would be pursuing me, he argued.
