Traffic stalled again on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, stones falling from mountains amid rain in Ramban.
The strategically important Jammu-Srinagar highway has to be closed once again.
Due to heavy rains, this step has been taken due to the falling of stones from the mountains in Mehr of Ramban.
The news agency quoted Ramban’s deputy commissioner as saying that stones are falling continuously on National Highway-44 in Mehr of Ramban.
It is also raining heavily. Due to this, the highway has been closed. A day earlier on Wednesday also, NH-44 had to be closed for about 6 hours.
Due to rain in the Ramban district, landslides and stone fall at many places caused debris on the highway.
Due to the closure of the road, the batch of pilgrims going on the Amarnath Yatra was also stuck.
Ramban Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Sen told the media that since Wednesday morning, there were reports of stones and debris falling from many places amid heavy rains.
Traffic stalled again on the Jammu-Srinagar highway: After this, in view of the safety of the passengers, the movement on Highway-44 was stopped.
According to media reports, following the orders of the Traffic Department, vehicles going from Jammu to Srinagar were stopped at places like Nagrota, Jakhaini on Wednesday.
A batch of about 4500 pilgrims who came out from Jammu for Amarnath Darshan was also stopped at Ramban.
After the rain stopped around 9 pm, the NHAI employees started the work of clearing the debris lying on the highway with machines. The highway was reopened as soon as the debris was cleared.
Here, the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted good rain in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Heavy rain has also been predicted in some places along with thunderstorms.
