Birth and education of Manmohan Singh
Manmohan Singh, the seventeenth Prime Minister of India, was born on 26 September 1932 in a small village called Gah in Pakistan. Actually, his family did not remember the day of his birth. However, when he went to school, 26 September was written as his date of birth. Manmohan Singh lost his mother at a very young age.
He was looked after by his grandmother. When it was the turn of the school for the first time, the grandmother wrote the date of birth of Manmohan Singh on 26 September. The area where his family lived in Pakistan was a backward area.
There was no electricity nor school in the village. He used to go to school for miles. He studied in lamps with kerosene. After the partition of the country, Manmohan Singh’s family came to India.
