Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation Elections In Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation elections have become so special for BJP, know why –

The BJP, which had won four to 48 seats in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election of Telangana, has now given full force to the Kerala civic elections.

It has a special eye on the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, where it won 34 seats in the last civic election.

The local body elections will be a litmus test for the BJP, as there are assembly elections next year. If it is won then South victory will be easy for the party.

Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation is very important

Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation elections are important for BJP in many ways. This municipal corporation is the largest in the entire state in terms of population and area.

Its 100 wards are spread over four assembly constituencies of the district. For the last 15 years, it has been under the control of the CPI (M) -led LDF.

The contest between the Left Democratic Front, LDF, United Democratic Front, UDF and the National Democratic Alliance, the NDA coalition, has made this election interesting.

In any case, the BJP wants to capture the post of Mayor with a clear majority this time.

Through this, it seeks to undermine the LDF’s roots in the state capital as well as ensure the victory of its candidates in the four assembly seats in Thiruvananthapuram in the upcoming assembly elections.

However, in the last assembly election, the BJP had to settle for only one seat.

Why emphasis on local bodies

The biggest blow to the BJP came when Vattiyurakavu resigned from the post of Governor of Mizoram in the by-election. Rajasekharan was defeated.

After this, the party planned to contest the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation elections with full power, so that the morale of the workers would be high before the upcoming assembly elections.

It is said that indirectly the Sangh officials are guiding BJP leaders in local elections.

Even though some rebels have raised their voice over the distribution of tickets for 100 wards, no major dissatisfaction has come to light.

Total vigilance in candidate selection

The BJP takes utmost care in selecting candidates for all local bodies in the state. Much precaution was taken in Thiruvananthapuram. The civic body voted on Tuesday.

The BJP has fielded its district president VV Rajesh for the Pujapur ward.

Party state president K.K. Sudarshan was asked by the media in the past that whether Rajesh had previously contested from Nedumangad assembly constituency and was a strong candidate, so he was fielded in the ward election.

On this Sudarshan said that you can think about how many experienced people the BJP wants to send to the Municipal Corporation.

The BJP takes the same seriousness in the selection of candidates in those bodies where its base is weak. The party is confident that people will vote on its policies as well as the candidate’s image.

Support of Kerala Congress (Thomas)

Rumors arose in October about the Kerala Congress (PC Thomas faction) that it wants to join the UDF by breaking ties with the NDA.

But, three days ago the party’s state general secretary PJ Babu announced to the media not only the support of BJP candidates in the local elections, but also made it clear that the exit from the NDA was just a rumor.

Thiruvananthapuram has always been favorable

The state capital Thiruvananthapuram has always been favorable to the BJP. There is a large number of Hindu voters here. The influence of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh i.e. RSS is also good.

The 2014 Lok Sabha elections are a proof of this, where BJP veteran O Rajagopal had won in the four assembly segments from Congress candidate Shashi Tharoor, but in the coastal region, Shashi Tharoor defeated and won.

However, the party did not get the benefit of Rajagopal’s lead in the four assembly segments in the Lok Sabha elections. The reasons for this were factionalism, selection of weak candidates, and cross-voting.
