Tata Steel Golf Tour: Chikka Continues To Lead Till Lunch

Tata Steel Golf Tour: Chikka continues to lead till lunch on the second day, Amardeep also performs well.

On the second day of the ongoing Tata Steel Golf Tour Championships at Beldih and Golmuri Golf Courses, Chikkarangappa of Bengaluru took the lead by scoring a score of ten under 62.

In this tournament worth Rs 1.5 crore, Amardeep Malik of Noida finished second in the card game of the magnificent Nine Under 63.

With a score of 64, Manu Gandas of Gurugram, Kshitij Naved Kaul of Delhi and Arjun Prasad, Harendra Gupta of Chandigarh jointly finished third.

Anirban Lahiri, who won the Pro AM title, is ranked seventh in the 65th card game PGTI Order of Merit with Chandigarh’s Karandeep Kochhar and Yuvraj Singh Sandhu leading seventh.

It is worth noting that 18-18 hole matches are being played daily at Beldih and Golmuri Golf Courses.

Chikkarangappa, who started the day off Golmuri, started off slow. On Thursday, he received an eagle and nine birdies, while a bogie also disappointed him.

The 27-year-old Chikkarangappa missed the birdies by a margin of 10 to 15 feet in the first, fifth, sixth, and seventh holes. He breathed a sigh of relief as the eagle was found in the 12th hole.

Chikka, who has been a frequent participant of the Asian Tour, finds a tree in the middle of the 17th hole target, causing him to get a baggy.

However, he made a comeback from the Baughies found in the 18th hole.

Chikka, a two-time winner of the Asian Development Tour, achieved birdie-eagle-birdie in the 11th, 12th and 13th holes and played a superb 10-under card.

Chikka surprised everyone in the 12th hole by getting a stunning Nine Eyre shot before getting 18 footer eagles.

After the match, Chikka said, “I changed my track this week.” In the last few tournaments, I was having problems due to hole pits.

The new track suits me. I would like a good start to lead to a grand end. Hope I get good results by the end of this week.

He said, if we talk about the difference between Beldih and Golmuri golf courses then Golmuri course is more scoring.

The Beldih course will have more challenges. Chikka, who was the runner-up of Tata Open Golf in 2018, said that I have played here in round two.

Amardeep achieved four consecutive birdies

Amardeep Malik also performed brilliantly on the first day. On Thursday, he achieved four consecutive birdies in the front nine and back nine.

Amardeep achieved birdies in the second, third, 11th, and 12th holes of Par 5. He also challenged in the fourth and 13th holes of Par-4 by acquiring birdies.

Harendra Gupta and Arjun Prasad, who performed brilliantly at Beldih Golf Course, jointly finished third in Round of 64 of Golmuri Golf Course along with Kshitij.

Gupta fell victim to a groin injury while teeing off in the ninth hole. Despite this, playing the bogey free card is highly appreciated.

Other prominent golfers include Tata Open Golf’s three-time champion SSP Chaurasia, local star Navtej Singh jointly finishing third. He played a card of 67.

Jyoti Randhawa and Shiv Kapoor are jointly in eighth position with 68 scores. Gaganjeet Bhullar and Rahil Gangaji jointly ranked 23rd. Last year’s winner Udayan Mane is 51st and Rashid Khan is 60th.
