Swami Vivekananda Jayanti Special: A friendship between the king and saint. The great sage Swami Vivekananda had a great connection with Raja Ajit Singh of Khetri district (Jhunjhunu) of Rajasthan.

Both were tight-lipped for the welfare of humanity, but one at the eastern edge of India and the other at the western edge.

It seems that the life of Vivekananda, the great saint of the nineteenth century, would have been incomplete without the coincidence of Raja Ajit Singh, Raja Ajit Singh was both his disciple and friend.

When Swami Vivekananda went on a tour of India after taking complete spiritual education from Ram Krishna Paramahamsa, he met King Ajit Singh in the palace of Khetri.

For about three months, Swamiji stayed in a room in the palace, where both the dignitaries exchanged high welfare ideas.

According to Professor Shashi Bhushan Tyagi, who recently retired from the University of Delhi.

“When Raja Ajit Singh saw Swami Ji’s unique talent, he felt that this great human could take my goals to the ultimate world glory.”

In the three months’ stay, the first king Ajit Singh named Swami ji as Vivekananda, before that he was not known by this name.

Swamiji also established a library in the palace of Khetri, he also studied the grammar of Panini while staying here so that he could understand the deep knowledge of Sanskrit.

Before addressing the Parliament of Religions in America, Swami Vivekananda was given a safa gift by Maharaja Ajit Singh, which Swami Vivekananda always wore on his head.

After the retirement of Vivekananda, the financial condition of his house was very weak. Raja Ajit Singh greatly assisted Swami Vivekananda’s mother, keeping in view the financial situation.

He also fixed the monthly pension for Swamiji’s mother which continued to be received by his mother even after Swami Vivekananda.

Once the king was going to watch the dance of the dancers for entertainment in his palace, Swamiji was sitting near him.

But as soon as Swamiji saw the dancers coming, he got up and went to his room, seeing that Mayna Bai of dance was very sad she felt that Swami Ji does not like it at all.

Then Mayna Bai sang a hymn of Surdas (Lord my avagna chit na dharo, samasdari hai naam tiharoo chahon ko cross —-) .

This hymn touched the heart of Swami Vivekananda and he said that today a new light of knowledge was seen by his eyes and thus Swamiji gave his blessings to that dancer.

Swami Vivekananda has said many times in his writings that he has acquired a lot from Khetri.
