Supreme Court Will Hear Demand For An Independent Investigation

Supreme Court will hear the demand for an independent investigation. The matter of objectionable speeches in Haridwar Dharma Sansad reached the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a plea seeking an independent inquiry into the Haridwar Dharma Sansad speeches that allegedly incited violence against the minority community.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioner, requested for urgent hearing before a bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice Surya Kant, and Justice Hima Kohli.

The Supreme Court’s division bench assured Sibal that the petition filed by former High Court judge and senior advocate Anjana Prakash and journalist Qurban Ali would be heard without delay.

The petition has demanded the arrest and prosecution of those who incite violence against the minority community at the Haridwar Dharma Sansad conclave.

Kapil Sibal, appearing for the petitioners, said that the slogan of the country seems to have been changed from ‘Satyamev Jayate’ to ‘Shastramev Jayate’.

We are living in a very dangerous time where slogans in the country have changed from Satyamev Jayate to Shastramev Jayate.

During the hearing, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana asked Sibal if any investigation was already going on in the matter, Sibal replied that FIR has been registered but no arrest has been made.

Sibal said the incident took place in Uttarakhand. In such a situation, without the intervention of the Supreme Court, no action is likely to be taken against the culprits.

On this, Chief Justice NV Ramana said that okay we will look into the matter.

The petitioners allege that hate speeches were allegedly delivered by Yati Narsinghanand in Haridwar and Hindu Yuva Vahini in Delhi from 17 to 19 December 2021.

The petition alleged that the alleged hate speeches were open calls to ethnic genocide.

It has been said in the petition that in the said speeches, along with hate speech, there was an open call for the killing of a particular community.

Such speeches are a serious threat to the unity and integrity of the country.

Despite the fact that hate speeches for genocide are available on the internet. No action has been taken by Uttarakhand and Delhi Police in this regard.
