Supreme Court to constitute a technical expert committee for investigation: Pegasus case.
Hearing the Pegasus case on Thursday, the Supreme Court said that it is ready to constitute a committee of technical experts to investigate.
At the same time, during the hearing, CJI NV Ramana said that now the court will pass an order on this matter next week.
The court said that some experts have expressed their inability to join the committee due to personal reasons, due to which there is a delay in the issuance of the order.
The apex court had on September 13 reserved its order, saying it only wanted to know whether the Center has used Pegasus spyware illegally to allegedly spy on citizens.
At the same time, the Center has categorically refused to file an affidavit citing national security on petitions seeking an independent probe into the espionage case.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that the matter is related to the larger public interest and national security and the matter cannot be debated in detail by affidavit.
It should not be brought up in the judicial debate.
The petitions seeking an independent investigation related to reports of alleged spying by government agencies on eminent citizens, politicians, and writers using spyware Pegasus from the Israeli firm NSO.
What is Pegasus Matter
An international media association has reported that more than 300 verified Indian mobile phone numbers were on the list of potential targets for surveillance using Pegasus spyware.
CJI NV Ramana says Supreme Court is setting up a technical expert committee to probe the alleged Pegasus snooping controversy.
