Supreme Court issues notice to Karnataka Government, Questions raised on the appointment of Muslim President in Minorities Commission. 

The Supreme Court has sought the response of the Karnataka government on a plea.

The plea is challenging the appointment of only one member of the Muslim community to the post of chairman of the State Minorities Development Corporation.

A bench of Justice Vineet Saran and Justice Aniruddha Bose has issued notice to the Chairman and Managing Director of Haj and Waqf, Karnataka State Minorities Corporation, Minority Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka.

The Supreme Court has sought a reply in the matter within six weeks.

Supreme Court issues notice to Karnataka: Anil Antony filed a petition.

In fact, the Supreme Court was hearing an appeal filed by Anil Antony of the Karnataka State Christian minority community.

In which the order of 18 January 2021 of the High Court was challenged.

The petition against the appointment of the chairman of the Karnataka State Minorities Development Corporation was dismissed by the High Court.

Advocate GS Mani, appearing for Antony, argued before the bench.

He said that the petitioner sought equal participation and representation of persons from other minority communities for the appointment of the chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Development Corporation.

What was said in the petition?

The petition states that except for the IAS officers, only persons belonging to the Muslim community have been appointed as the chairman of the corporation since its inception in 1986.

The petition noted that the High Court, which passed the order in January last year, failed to consider the appointment of the chairman of the corporation along with those of other minority religions- Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains, and Buddhists.

There was discrimination at the same time, an appeal was made in the Supreme Court against the order of the High Court.

At present, a bench of Justice Vineet Saran and Justice Aniruddha Bose has sought a reply on the entire matter in six weeks.
