Sunanda Palnethara Of BJP Became Mayor In Mysuru

Sunanda Palnethara of BJP became mayor for the first time in Mysuru, defeated the Congress candidate.

BJP councilor has become mayor for the first time in Mysuru, Karnataka. BJP councilor Sunanda Palnethara was elected mayor after the ruling Congress and Janata Dal(S) broke the alliance in the city.

Of the 64 members of the Mysuru Municipal Corporation, 22 are from the BJP, 19 from the Congress, 17 from the JDS, and one from the Bahujan Samaj Party, while five are independents.

The alliance of both parties was continuing in the city even after the fall of the Congress-JD(S) government in the state in 2019.

BJP fielded Palnethara, Congress candidate was Shanta Kumari. JDS stayed away from voting. BJP candidate Palnethara got 26 votes and Congress candidate Kumari got 22 votes.

Two BJP MLAs from the city and one MP from the Electoral College also cast their vote for Palnethara.

According to sources, an independent councilor has also voted in her favor. He said Palnethara’s tenure as mayor would be only six months.

“I am extremely happy with the victory and I express my gratitude to all the councilors, elected representatives, and people of Mysuru,” Pulanethra told reporters.

I will do everything for the betterment of Mysuru.

CM Basavaraj S. Bommai, former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Mysuru MP Pratap Simha, district in-charge minister ST Somashekar and MLAs SA Ramadas and Nagendra congratulated Palnethara.

Congratulating the newly elected mayor, Bommai said, “Mysuru has got a BJP mayor after years of hard work. I congratulate Sunanda Palnethara.

I congratulate all the councilors, MPs, MLAs, Mysuru in-charge minister ST Somashekar.

Taking to Twitter, Yediyurappa said, “BJP getting the post of mayor is a strong indication that the party’s roots are getting stronger.”

Please tell that the Mysuru Municipal Corporation was formed in 1983 since then no one could become mayor from BJP.
