Street protests over a military coup in Sudan have intensified: Sudan Military Coup. 7 protesters killed, over 140 injured in army firing.

Seven demonstrators have been killed and more than 140 people have been injured in Sudanese military firing on those involved in the protest.

The army seized power on Monday, sacking the country’s caretaker government, hours after the prime minister was arrested.

Thousands of people took to the streets in protest in the capital Khartoum and Omdurman after the country’s coup.

Street protests over a military coup: Local media quoted a health official as saying that at least seven people were killed in the military firing.

Sudan’s main opposition coalition called for civil disobedience and protests across the country and demanded the transfer of power from military rule to civilian government.

The first news of the military’s possible capture of power started pouring in on Monday morning.

The information ministry confirmed in the morning that Prime Minister Abdala Hamdok had been arrested and taken to an undisclosed location.

The coup has been condemned by the US, the United Nations, and the European Union.

US State Department spokesman Ned Price said the Biden administration was suspending $700 million in aid to Sudan.

Meanwhile, White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said the US had been warning of a military coup in Sudan. He said the prime minister and other officials should be released immediately.

China and the Taliban meet in Doha, urged to protect women’s rights.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Taliban Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani in the Qatari capital of Doha on Monday.

During this, he urged the Taliban to adopt a friendly policy towards their neighboring countries. Along with this, he expressed the hope of protecting the rights of women.

At the meeting, Baradar briefed Wang about the current situation in Afghanistan.

He said that the country is continuously improving and the government decrees are being implemented effectively.

During the meeting, Wang said that Afghanistan currently has a historic opportunity to rebuild the country, Xinhua news agency reported.

At the same time, Afghanistan is simultaneously facing many challenges including humanitarian crisis, economic chaos, the threat of terrorism, and governance difficulties.

Afghanistan needs more support from the international community to overcome these challenges.
