The fishermen were taken to Kankesanthurai port after being arrested near Jaffna on Saturday. The Navy has also seized two of their boats.

Earlier on Friday, the Sri Lankan Navy had detained 15 Indian fishermen near Karainagar coast in the northern Jaffna peninsula.

In 2023, the Sri Lankan Navy arrested 240 Indian fishermen and seized 35 of their boats.

Maldives-China Relations: China expressed support for preserving the Maldives’ sovereignty when Indian forces returned home.

China has said that it supports the Maldives in protecting its sovereignty. This statement of China came after the return of the first contingent of the Indian Army to operate the helicopter.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Tuesday that he had no clear information about the withdrawal of the first contingent of Indian troops from Maldives.

However, China is a supporter of protecting the sovereignty of Maldives’ borders. Based on this independence, friendly cooperation continues between the two countries.
