Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra has accused Ranjith, a veteran film director of the Malayalam film industry and president of the government Kerala Chalachitra Academy, of sexual harassment. Sreelekha alleges that in the year 2009, the filmmaker misbehaved with her during the audition of Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha. It was traumatic and I could not share this incident with anyone. After the incident, I stayed in the hotel out of fear, thinking what would happen if 10 people came and knocked on my door? After Srilekha’s statement, Ranjit has given a statement and completely rejected her allegation. He says that he met Srilekha in a flat in the presence of screenwriter Shankar Ramakrishnan and two assistants. He went on, “She was ecstatic when Shankar told the story. I was a little confused about which role should be given to her. Later it was decided not to take her and Shankar was asked to inform her about it.”
