SOI Mudra: Ancient Yogic Practice for Quick Digestion and Nutrient Absorption

Discover the power of SOI Mudra, an ancient yogic practice that aids in quick digestion, relieves constipation, and enhances nutrient absorption. Learn how to perform this effective mudra to improve your digestive health.

Namaste everyone! Today, I’m going to share with you a mudra that is very important for the digestive system. It will help you get relief from severe constipation, especially if you’ve been suffering for many years. This mudra is very beneficial for those who are not comfortable with many other exercises to take care of their digestive system.

This mudra is also unique because you perform it with only one hand at a time, then you switch. This mudra is called SOI mudra, one of the oldest yogic mudras for the digestive system. It not only aids in digesting food but also helps in the absorption of nutrients into the body. From the moment you take food inside, this mudra assists in the entire digestion process and helps in moving nutrients from one place to another within the body.

Duration and Benefits of SOI Mudra

Typically, this mudra is performed for 10 to 15 minutes. However, those suffering from high blood pressure, anxiety, or depression should do this mudra for only 3 to 4 minutes. This mudra is considered one of the most powerful for digestion and is also beneficial for those with a weak excretory system. If you find that food feels heavy even after digestion, this mudra can help move the food properly from the stomach to the intestines and aid in nutrient absorption.

When to Perform SOI Mudra

To perform this mudra, you need to do it one hour before eating and right after eating for 10 to 15 minutes. The best posture for this mudra is Vajrasana. Sit in Vajrasana for 10 minutes right after food, then perform this mudra in the same posture.

How to Perform SOI Mudra

Now, let’s understand how to perform SOI mudra, which is a hand mudra. Each finger represents an element: the thumb represents fire, the middle finger represents space, the ring finger represents earth, the small finger represents water, and the index finger represents air. The air element is crucial in the digestive process for moving food after digestion.

In this mudra, the index finger is dominant. To perform it, bend the first three fingers and place them in the center area of your hand, which corresponds to the digestive tract. The thumb will be on top, and the index finger will be extended forward. The left hand will remain in a fist on top of the left knee, while the right hand, facing upward, will be placed on top of the right knee. Stay in this position for 10 to 15 minutes, or 3 to 4 minutes if you have any mental health issues.

Focus and Concentration During SOI Mudra

When performing this mudra, keep your eyes open and focus on a single point, either on the wall or the tip of your nose. Closing your eyes can disturb the process as the dominant air element may not allow your mind to rest.

Consistency is Key

Perform this mudra regularly for at least three months, both before and after meals. It will help with old constipation, weak digestion, and difficulty in passing stool.
